Jumpha Lahiri shortlisted for U.S. National award 2013
Jumpha Lahiri’s tale of two brother’s from Kolkata named as “The
Lowland” has been shortlisted for U.S. National Award along with nine other
works . Winners will be declared on November 20. Lahiri, 46, born in London and
lives in New York is family of immigrants from West Bengal. Her collection of
stories “Interpreters of Maladies" won Pulitzer Award and PEN/ Hamingway’s award. Her
other books are “The Namesake” and “Unaccustomed Earth”.
Agha Khan Academy launced formally at Hydrabad
The non-profit academy which has come up on 100 acres of
land donated by Andhra Pradesh government near the Rajiv Gandhi International
Airport, was formally launched by Aga Khan, founder and Chairman of the Aga Khan
Development Network (AKDN). On the occasion, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar
Reddy and union Human Resource Development Minister M.M. Pallam Raju were also
present. The academy follows International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum. AKDN works in 30 countries.
